Three Sticks Wines: Alana Vineyard
The Alana Vineyard, one of Three Sticks Wines’ monopole vineyards, is a really special site. It's a place that when you show up, you're always sort of just in awe and really are connected to nature. On a wispy, foggy day, you see all of the redwoods and pine trees. It is a true green valley of Russian River. You feel small in a place like the Alana Vineyard.
At five and a half planted acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay planted in a spot with big trees, it sits in a place of big capacity for weather swings and a lot of fog. Geographically, the vineyard is nestled in at a really steep hillside in triangle between Occidental, Graton, and Sebastopol.
The soils are some of the most special elements of that site. The Gold Ridge soils off of Alana drain really well because they are fine, dusty, offer a great texture that show through the wines, especially the Pinot Noirs. The Alana Chardonnay is a little jewel at the bottom of this vineyard. The texture that comes from the small clusters of berries make for a really intense and beautiful wine that is just in minuscule quantities.
