Three Sticks Wines: Winemaking
The Three Sticks wine making philosophy is really about two things: pleasure, terroir. So, it's about telling the specific story of the vineyard as best as they can. And then it's about pleasure. Wine is about pleasure. It's about making wines that are delicious, that feel good in your mouth, that smell great in your glass, and that you just want more sips of.
Their goal is to make the best wines possible from their exquisite sites, to showcase the site, showcase the terroir, and the uniqueness that comes from each and every one of them. In addition to that, they want wines that are ageable, wines that you could age over time, and even share with your kids when they get older. They want wines that have vibrancy and life.
They make 19 different wines consisting of 10 different pinot noirs that are site-driven, vineyard designate wines, as well as some AVA blends of those vineyards. They have five different chardonnays, three wines that are their, Castenada wines, which are Rhone varietal based, and then they do a pinot blanc as well. What they look for in a vineyard is uniqueness, typicity to site, and to its region. The soils are really important, and there's also just something that you can't really explain. You just get a feeling.
Winemaker, Ryan Prichard is just growing by leaps and bounds. Every year he gets more into depth into the incredible details that result in making a fantastic wine, like making your own barrels, going to France to select the wood, experimenting with native yeast in different types of whole-cluster fermentations. What he's doing now is exceptional, as we hear, number one from our customers, but then of course, the critics are now on board too.
First and foremost, the thing that really stands out about Three Sticks was the Vineyard portfolio. They have some of the best vineyards in Sonoma County, and having the opportunity to make wines from the best vineyards would be every winemaker's dream.
