Bud Break.

It

never ceases to amaze me how life springs forth from vineyard vines that have been rooted in the soil for decades—sometimes 20, 30, even 70 years or more. These vines, planted by human hands and nurtured by the earth, draw nutrients from the soil year after year. Healthy vines produce healthy grapes, and when farmers implement the best practices—organic or biodynamic methods—they’re rewarded not just with fruitful harvests but with thriving ecosystems.

What fascinates me most is the resilience of these vines. Not long after the vineyard workers prune the dormant canopy back to its bare nubs, new buds begin to emerge from the rootstock. These tiny bursts of life will eventually grow into the plump, juice-filled berries that bring joy to so many. Watching the buds push forth with such vigor and determination is endlessly inspiring—a reminder of renewal, strength, and the beauty of life’s cycles.

The more time I spend in a winter vineyard during the transition of bud break, the more this concept resonates with me. It’s as if the vines themselves are teaching us about persistence and the promise of new beginnings

This photograph captures that sense of vitality and transformation, and I can’t help but envision it printed on metal. The reflective quality of our metal prints adds an unparalleled depth to the image, showcasing every tonal variation—from the deepest shadows to the brilliant highlights on the tips of the buds. Paired with one of our rechargeable fine art wall-mounted lights, the illumination brings the photograph to life, creating a show-stopping effect that draws viewers in.

I hope this piece inspires you as much as it inspires me—a celebration of the strength and beauty that emerges from even the most seemingly barren moments.

This print is available in vertical orientations ranging from 8x10 inches to 40x60 inches, as well as square formats. Each print, whether it be on the Pearl Paper, Canvas, or Metal is reproduced in the highest quality possible, bringing the details and mood of the photograph to life.
